About

Hi, I’m Giles Dickerson, and I’m a graphic designer and creative strategist living in New York City. I encouraged you to introduce yourself by sending me an email, I love meeting new people, and I’m happy to answer questions or begin a conversation.
Professionally speaking, I’m a thinker, problem solver, designer and strategist, with a focus on the brand side. I’m comfortable with both the physical and digital side, and I’m very good at wrapping my arms around large integrated programs and projects. I have a lot of experience in the interactive and brand space, but I’m most interested with understanding what makes a business tick and thus what brings their unique value to their customer’s lives. I currently work as a design and brand consultant, and love hearing about new opportunities for projects, reviewing RFP’s for a possible proposal, or working collaboratively on a freelance or project basis either as a team leader or as a creative resource for the team.
This blog is a sounding board for my ideas and inspirations. I love to share, and so here I share a mix of thoughts, lessons, projects, and anything occupying my professional mind that’s worthy of discussion. For shorter thoughts and reflections you can follow me on twitter, or you can subscribe to the RSS feed from this blog, which will feed any content posted here.
The Backstory: While living in Boston I started out in Journalism (my first career) working for New Media magazine, where I fell in love with interactive media, writing product reviews and covering things like Comdex. I then immersed myself in all things interactive and graphic design–taking design courses at Massachusetts College of Art and teaching myself what was then the first iteration of Flash, then called Director. I worked in a few design studios and eventually accepted a position as Art Director for the direct response agency Digitas. At this time I was also running and hosting a Saturday evening FM radio show called Flastplastic where I exposed Boston’s musically curious to all kinds of dance, electronic, experimental, jazz and funk related music. Upon moving to New York in 2001 (for the second time), I started a studio called “Nice Design”. The work I did there was well received and soon teamed up with an associate from Vail, Colorado, beginning an agency called Ingredient, where I operated as the Chief Creative Officer for 5 years. I’ve since left to pursue a new focus.
And so, with 10 years working closely with L.L. Bean, Nieman Marcus, AT&T, GM, SAAB, Barneys New York, Jones Apparel Group and recently Walmart, I’m now operating as a creative and design consultant, working with some very large companies and some very small. I’m also devoting a portion of my time to non-profits, working for the greater social good as well as consulting with some bands and record labels, bringing what I’ve learned about brand strategy to the music space.
I really enjoy what I do and I hope it shows.
